How to Troubleshoot Centovacast Problems Starting Server

Centovacast is a web-based control panel that allows you to manage your streaming servers (SHOUTcast DNAS or IceCast) and create online radio stations. However, sometimes you may encounter problems when trying to start your stream, such as:

  • Server could not be started: Server startup failed
  • Server could not be started: Server exited immediately after startup

These errors indicate that Centovacast could not start or keep running your streaming server software. There are several possible causes and solutions for these problems, which we will explain below.

How to Troubleshoot Centovacast Problems Starting Server

When you see these errors, Centovacast should prompt you to try starting the server in diagnostic mode. This will display more information about the problem and help you identify the cause. You should also check the server logs to see if there are any error messages or clues.

To view the server logs, log in to your Centovacast account and click the View Logs link under the Management heading. Then click the Error Log link at the upper-right corner of the page. Note that the error log is displayed from oldest to newest, so you need to select the last page of log data to see the recent entries.

Some of the common causes and solutions for Centovacast problems starting server are:

  • Port or IP address conflict: This means that another application or process is using the same port number or IP address that you assigned to your stream. To fix this, you need to either stop the other application or process, or change your stream settings to use a different port number or IP address. You can also check if you have configured your stream for an IP address that does not exist on your server.
  • Listener limit too high: This means that you have set your listener limit to an unrealistic value (such as 99999). This can cause memory allocation errors and prevent your server from starting. To fix this, you need to set a reasonable listener limit that matches your server resources and bandwidth.
  • Incorrect pathname: This means that the path to your streaming server binary (SHOUTcast DNAS or IceCast) is incorrect. To check your path, log in to Centovacast as admin, click on Server Software, then select SHOUTcast or IceCast and look in the Pathname field. To verify that the path is correct, log in to your server via SSH and type the pathname followed by enter. If the path is correct, you should see “SHOUTcast Distributed Network Audio Server” or “IceCast v2.x.x” start up. If you see any errors, this means that your pathname is incorrect and you need to correct it.
  • Permissions or ownership problem: This means that there is a problem with the permissions or ownership of your files or directories related to Centovacast or your streaming server software. To fix this, you need to make sure that your /home/centovacast/vhosts/ directory, the subdirectory for your stream, and all of the files and directories within that subdirectory are owned by the “centovacast” UNIX user account and have appropriate permissions (i.e., NOT chmod 0777).
